Watching MAGAs panic at the thought that women might vote opposite their husbands reminds me that after no fault divorce was legalized in 1970, female suicide rates dropped 20%

The "strong 1950s family unit" that GOP is nostalgic about ignores record high female suicide, suffocating DV, & 0 female financial autonomy.

GOP was always about control of women, and nothing about that has changed today.

I rememeber my parents arguing endlessly about money as my father's high flying civil service job paid an absolute pittance (that was the way it was back in 1950s England, civil servants were paid a fraction of what they would have beeen earned in the private sector for an equivalent job). My mother who was a registered nurse and midwife, wanted to go back to work but my father who was of staunch conservative, working class origins, was horrified by the idea as in his youth, a wife having to go out to work was a dreadful insult to man's virility as he couldn't earn enough to support his family on his own and my father was as vain & pompous as it was possible to get!
