I am quite sure that, structurally, a federated approach is the way to go for moderation.
You can have lazy, protestant, bro, 1st 2nd xth wave feminist, ultra liberal, and morally conservative, Platonic, Aristotelian, Kantian or utilitarian instances etc. Those who want to engage can talk in a private. I've lost practically all belief in public debates.
Since it's rather easy to migrate, you can pick the instance that has the the closest approximation to the rules you agree with.

Agreed. Similar people band together in virtually all situations and systems, so fighting that by forcing everyone together is doomed without heavy handed methods, which a lot of people do not want anyway or at least in a way to would please large enough fraction of people.
