I'm generally against instances blocking and muting people, but I'm 100% in favor of doing it myself.

The difference between me and the typical #fediblock #fediblockmeta stan is that if there's content that's offensive or hurts my feelings, I block the account. If one of the stans comes across objectionable or controversial content, they'll demand that the entire #fediblock #fediblockmeta community block the instances or account.

My experience on free speech instances is wonderful specifically because of the blocks I've instated. And I forgot how wild and reckless the federated timeline on the free speech portion of the #Fediverse is until I convinced a #Fediverse user to try out social.teci.world in order to test #Soapbox lol

The list of people I have muted is so long that I couldn't even zoom out far enough to see the whole thing. Instance mutes are less extensive.

My general rule has been, when joining an instance, primarily use the federated tab and mute users if I see them posting slurs or porn/nudity. If I notice that I keep muting folks from the same instance, and they don't seem to have any/that many "good apples", I mute the instance.

But this is entirely subjective, and just me! Feel free to mute whoever you want.

@realcaseyrollins yes! I was bewildered at the comments of Twitter flockers until I remembered the time spent just blocking and blocking for myself.

I'm glad I'm on an instance that gives me the freedom to do this on my own. I follow people who likely block each other for understandable reasons...but glad their choices don't block me from following either.

I figure... Let me block for my own subjective reasons but not be blocked by yours.
