#mastodon So if boost is the equivalent of twitter's retweet and tumblr's reblog, is there an equivalent that also allows you quote tweet or add your own comments?

@dcbaok
@seperis

The instance I'm on has them coded in by the owner. It works within the site and externally I think it looks like a link to the original toot.

@War_Kittens @dcbaok @seperis That’s cool that individual instances aren’t beholden to the design choices of the original creator. Personally I like not having quote tweets for the reasons he outlined, but I totally get why people would find them useful.

@missingstring @War_Kittens @seperis I find the threading here is Not Great (tho problematic on Twitter too) so would like quote tweets as a way to specify what exactly I'm replying to sometimes

@dcbaok @missingstring @War_Kittens As yet, no one has been able to come up with a working social media model that combines individual control and community engagement/conversation with any kind of success. Which makes sense, yeah: they're almost philosophically opposed to each other when it comes to who has the right to control the content.

I've found any given threading problem in social media tends to be directly related to where the creator landed on the individual vs community spectrum.
