@_the_cloud @pluralistic Another street sign I saw (in Melbourne Australia) many years ago:
"Blind Elderly People Crossing"
which seems like a horribly cruel thing to do.
@uncleslacky That's because the bright children know to look both ways before crossing the road. @aebrockwell @_the_cloud @pluralistic
@uncleslacky @aebrockwell @_the_cloud @pluralistic Where I lived in the 70's, there was a huge black & white roadside sign near a Youth Club, stating:
DEAD SLOW CHILDREN
without any punctuation or other semantic paraphernalia.
@uncleslacky @aebrockwell@qoto.org @_the_cloud @pluralistic @shelldozer In America I once saw a sign next to a freeway saying "POLICE PATROLS DRIVE CAREFULLY".
@shelldozer @uncleslacky @aebrockwell @_the_cloud @pluralistic
DEAD SLOW CHILDREN is obviously a sign of the zombie apocalypse.
@davidtheeviloverlord @shelldozer @uncleslacky @aebrockwell @_the_cloud @pluralistic One I collected at Font Police last year:

@uncleslacky @aebrockwell @_the_cloud @pluralistic I like the one near me that says “Beware Deaf Child”. Not children. Just the one kid and his or her personal street sign
@uncleslacky @aebrockwell @_the_cloud @pluralistic Also the sign is at least 30 years old
@aebrockwell @_the_cloud @pluralistic @uncleslacky
There's one of those on my street. But I like this one in a neighboring street better.
@aebrockwell @_the_cloud @pluralistic
God help me, this Don Martin cartoon has been stuck in my brain for 35 years
@aebrockwell @_the_cloud @pluralistic @jaythurbershow I was a Don Martin fan in the seventies and still recognize his style from the first panel 😄
The hinged feet are a bit of a giveaway though
@jaythurbershow @aebrockwell @_the_cloud @pluralistic Yeah, it's great to poke fun at disabled people.
@jaythurbershow @aebrockwell @_the_cloud @pluralistic Our "heavy plant crossing" signs never cease to amuse either.,
@etchedpixels @aebrockwell @_the_cloud @pluralistic
I once waited for three hours in a restaurant bathroom for an employee to come and wash my hands before I could eat. I'm lucky I didn't starve to death
@jaythurbershow @etchedpixels @aebrockwell @_the_cloud @pluralistic for 🦊 sake! 🤣
@etchedpixels @jaythurbershow @aebrockwell @_the_cloud @pluralistic The triffids have to cross *somewhere*.
@aebrockwell @pluralistic I took this photo in Scotland. Apparently elderly people had become such a road hazard that the council felt that they needed to put up a sign.
@_the_cloud @aebrockwell @pluralistic that's nice, in the US if you're old and you live where it's unsafe to walk, you just don't leave your house, unless you're rich, than you can pay to have someone drive you around.
@aebrockwell @pluralistic @_the_cloud The Isle of Mull has Otter Crossing signs.
@_the_cloud @aebrockwell @pluralistic my cheery old tour guide pointed out this sign and she described it as "here's a sign warning you that women will steal your grandad's wallet"
@dresstokilt Exactly where my mind went when I saw that. "Whut? Warnig: Elderly Pickpockets".
@_the_cloud @aebrockwell @pluralistic But I am trying to figure out the need for the words. Being able to recognize the silhouette would seem to be an important skill to have when driving.
@_the_cloud @aebrockwell @pluralistic The British street I live on has a toad warning sign.
@JamesBaker @aebrockwell @pluralistic Is it a plague of toads, or just the one toad that requires its own warning?
EDIT: after a search for "toad warning sign," I was enlightened and apparently it's the former. Loads of toads cross roads during migration, and there are human "toad patrols" to help them do it safely.
@_the_cloud @aebrockwell @pluralistic usually see these nearby old folk’s homes
@_the_cloud @aebrockwell @pluralistic isn't 40 plus years old 'elderly' in Scotland
@_the_cloud This one seemed strange to me… I suppose one is entitled to hang out at any age. @aebrockwell @pluralistic
@jonfairbairn @aebrockwell @pluralistic That sounds dangerous! One might fall on top of you.
@aebrockwell @_the_cloud @pluralistic There was/is a sign on a council estate near where I grew up that had a sign reading "Slow Children Playing".
