Application now open for $500 travel awards for the Ecological Society of America Meeting this summer in Portland, OR through the ESA Microbial Ecology section: https://forms.gle/sLunavnLGYwZaEGB7
If you wrote some #RStats code several years ago, would it still run today? If not, and you need to reproduce your results - then the new {rang} package is your friend!
Read an introduction to the package in this post from @schochastics:

The R Packages chapter on **Releasing to CRAN** is now revised 🚀 #rstats
Please have a 👀 and open an issue if something looks wonky.
Check out our cool model that calculates the #impacts of #climatechange to the US. https://www.github.com/USEPA/FrEDI #opensource
Interested in isotope pool dilution? There's a brand new #rstats package available on CRAN to help analyze data from these types of experiments: "PoolDilutionR" by my colleague Dr. Kendal Morris 🎉 https://cran.r-project.org/package=PoolDilutionR
Law suits against perpetrators of deliberate climate misinformation are gathering momentum. This will become a much bigger issue in coming decades.
@davidho today pointed out a nicely succinct and plain spoken explainer by @mtyka (Mike Tyka).
Mike clears up a common misunderstanding concerning removing CO2 from the atmosphere and sequestering carbon via oceanic geochemistry involving CaCO3 (calcium carbonate).

Mike also points out an excellent #OpenAccess review article discussing how we might encourage the ocean to do more. Find the link to that at Mike's blog post.
Curious what folks (esp @rlmcelreath) think of the approach to high-dimensional regression in this paper: https://doi.org/10.1016/j.ijheh.2023.114116
1) LASSO on 50% of data
2) Select most frequent non-zero variables from repeated random CV
3) DAG-based confounder adjustment regression with those variables on other 50% of data
To me, it is both a vast improvement on and also recapitulates the conceptual issues of the classic epi select-based-on-p-value-then-multiple-regress approach.
Hi all! My #introduction:
I'm a computational ecologist interested in disease dynamics (#DisEcol!), zoonotic spillover, spatiotemporal processes and the intersection of mechanistic models, Bayes + ML. I work at EcoHealth Alliance, an NGO focused on the links between conservation + health.
I do a fair bit of #rstats and lead a project at @ropensci facilitating peer-review of scientific software.
I'm Brooklyn-based, and will sometimes toot about local #NYC politics, #cycling and #bikepacking.
