The AIs are getting in on genetics now!
A new predictive model named ProGen made by a group of scientists in California was fed the entire database of all 280 million known proteins, their structure, and additional markers on their function.
Then, it was able to create entirely new artificial proteins shown to be fully effective at their designed purpose.

The interesting question is whether the model works better than simply a probabilistic sampling of a large MSA. No controls were reported. Hm.
