@crunklord420 What are the specs of the server that runs the KF Pleroma instance? I’m just curious how much RAM, how many cores, what CPU, what OS, etc. you guys use over there.
Over here NB has:
2 dedicated E3-1270 v3 cores
Dedicated gigabit WAN
8 GB of RAM
160 GB of SATA SSD in RAID 10
A couple of slabs of HDD space that totals to 1TB that’s used for media and postgres
That’s gonna change pretty soon to 3900X cores and NVME storage tho. Also, the server runs
Have a cheap instance from them for a few years hosting random stuff. Pretty decent experience so far.
Am thinking of upgrading though since I'm a bit low on RAM.
Off the top of my head, Linx, Kanboard, Synapse (Matrix), Wallabag, Trojan-gfw, Wireguard, and some competitive programming related stuff. There are also some static sites, some reverse proxys for stuff that I run at home, and Netdata.
@sjw @crunklord420 @casualwp Yea these look interesting. I like when they have Docker instructions. I might too.
@sjw @crunklord420 @casualwp Docker causes a lot of problems .. but it also solves a lot of problems ...
I have a love hate relationship with Docker 🐳
Docker feels like a guilty pleasure for me in the sense that I get a lot of the criticism, but boy is it easy to set up in a self-hosted scenario.
I'm using Arch on my laptop and dev VM.
On servers I'm a bit hesitant though. In a sense, stable-release distros (am using Debian, TIL about the Weboob incident though) are attractive for amateurs (?) like me since I can batch stuff up and deal with updates in one go.
It's something @sjw posted in a thread about the Pleroma controversy.
