What could I use as backend for a website contact form? Hassle with SMTP? Or is there a cleverer solution? Selfhosted spreadsheet-like with API?

@dsofeir hadn't made the link between GDPR and SMTP yet. How are they linked? A webform requires personally identifiable information?

@Yarmo @Daithí Seán ÓFoghlú :kubuntu: I'm also curious about that one. Found some info about email in general here, but I can't see that the transfer protocol should be an issue.

@harald diving into the matter now as well. I assume @dsofeir isn't targeting SMTP itself but rather the processing of email addresses.

Is submitting an online form a form of consent, given adequate disclaimers? Need to dig deeper

I will avoid handling email and GDPR all together, don't need the hassle. But I still hope we get some clarification here

@yarmo

Honestly, this complexity and burden on small-site owners is one of the reasons why I am skeptical of the GDPR, even as someone who cares about privacy.
