New US Law on Operating System Age Verification

Representative Josh Gottheimer (D-NJ) has introduced legislation for a national age verification requirement for operating systems. The bill, the text of which is not yet available, is co-sponsored by Representative Elise M. Stefanik (R-NY), demonstrating that the few times our national legislature can agree on something it is universally bad for everybody.

@tech-news What if the law required the sites with targeted content (child pron, grooming sites like Disney, etc) to only accept connections from systems supporting the age verify API?

Of course, history shows that the Bible was classified as pron in the Soviet Union - so abuse is still on the horizon. But an age verify API is at least a requirement with legit applications - and does not legislate OS features. Pron customers will demand the feature.
