#PhysicsFactlet
When your source is moving as fast as the signal it generates, the fronts are compressed to the point of overlapping exactly, producing a "sonic boom".
If the source travels faster than the speed of the signal, the envelope of the circular fronts form a cone (Mach cone).
@j_bertolotti similar to, but different than, the Kelvin wake pattern created on the surface of a fluid
@j_bertolotti That reminds me I have to link my notes of fluid dynamics in my bio somehow! https://github.com/ddcampayo/Fluid_Mechanics
@j_bertolotti That's fine. They are not meant to be introductory, they are rather just lecture notes
@dduque Downloaded on my tablet, read the first 5 pages, enjoyed it a lot, and never found the mental space to go any further 😭
