@meshtastic I've tried but I see some privacy concerns in the firmware that make it less secure.

The device automatically transmits its node ID derived from the device's MAC address, and you can't change the MAC address, nor this node ID, not even by resetting the device. Like this, people can track your history forever, and can more easily find your personal location.

There should be an option to change (randomize) your MAC address and change this ID when you're resetting the device.

Is the hardware and role I'm using also transmitted, or is it only visible for me in the node list?

I don't know if the BLE privacy MAC randomization is implemented, but when the device is not connected to a phone it automatically advertises itself with a Bluetooth name that contains the node ID. So people nearby can identify your device just by looking at the Bluetooth name. I think the Bluetooth name should be changeable.

On a side note, the "NONE" Rebroadcast Mode is not clear to me in the Device Configuration documentation. Can a "CLIENT_HIDDEN" role device not be set to the "NONE" Rebroadcast Mode?
