Amnesty International yesterday slammed Israeli authorities for the mass demolition of Palestinian homes in Sur Baher, and urged the international community to take action.
Israeli forces carried out a longstanding military-issued demolition order yesterday morning, targeting a number of buildings in the community that lies in both the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem. Dozens of residential apartments were destroyed.
In its statement, the global human rights organisation pulled no punches in condemning the home demolitions.
“These demolitions are a flagrant violation of international law and part of a systematic pattern by the Israeli authorities’ to forcibly displace Palestinians in the occupied territories,” said Saleh Higazi, deputy Middle East and North Africa director for Amnesty International.
“Such actions amount to war crimes,” the Amnesty official added.

Occupied Jerusalem (QNN)- The Israeli police on Wednesday emptied a building owned by Siam Family in occupied Jerusalem and handed it over to Jewish settlers following an Israeli court decision issued last month.
Local sources said that dozens of Israeli policemen and settlers broke into the building, located in Silwan, this morning. The building consists of a big house with a store and additional land. The settlers and Israeli police started emptying the house of the family’s properties following assaults against the family members and the arrest of one of them.
The Israeli police closed the entrance of the neighborhood and prevented locals and journalists from entering or covering the incident.

A US general appears to be ramping up military propaganda against Iran, claiming the US forces “may have brought down” a second Iranian drone, while failing to procure any evidence for bringing down the first one despite claiming to be in possession of its footage.
Iran has asserted that all of its drones are accounted for but CENTCOM Commander Gen. Kenneth McKenzie claimed in an interview with CBS News on Tuesday that he was “confident” about the first one.
"We're confident we brought down one drone; we may have brought down a second," McKenzie said, referring to the USS Boxer's encounter with an unmanned aircraft allegedly belonging to Iran.

"This has been the honor of my life," the former host of Comedy Central's "Daily Show" said at a press conference following the passage of the bill, which would ensure funding for victims for the next seven decades. The Senate voted overwhelmingly, 97-2, to pass the legislation, which now heads to President Trump's desk for his signature. Republican Sens. Rand Paul of Kentucky and Mike Lee of Utah were the only two to vote against it, citing spending concerns.
