I reported on the historic summit of CELAC, the Community of Latin American and the Caribbean States, hosted in Mexico on September 18.
It was an important example of Latin America’s gradual move away from the Organization of American States (OAS), a neocolonial proxy of Washington, by instead strengthening regional institutions that exclude the United States and Canada.
The presidents of Venezuela and Cuba attended, and CELAC demanded an end to the criminal US blockade of Cuba.
CELAC also called for the decolonization of Puerto Rico.
There are definitely internal contradictions and problems that Washington is already exploiting to try to weaken CELAC and subvert Latin American integration, but this was a blow to US imperialism in the region.
