I continue to be mystified by the sentiment that being a First Amendment advocate means *socially* tolerating people I find obnoxious or contemptible. I keep getting “what kind of free speech advocate blocks people?” The kind who doesn’t deal with assholes when not professionally compelled to do so. The First Amendment isn’t a hair shirt.
"The right to free speech means the govt can't arrest you for what you say.
It doesn't mean that anyone else has to listen to your bullshit,
or host you while you share it.
The 1st Amendment doesn't shield you from criticism or consequences.

@ZhiZhu This strip sort of glosses over some important free speech issues. The idea of losing your job for something you say, for example, is a big deal; establishing norms around what justifies that kind of response, whether those responses do more harm than good, etc are important conversations.
