@TootUncommon@ech I was taught (California, 1970's) that the Civil War wasn't about slavery, but rather States' Rights, and that the only people who cared about slavery were a few progressives and only some of the slaves. It wasn't until about 2000 that I discovered the memoirs of ex-slaves that were published in the early part of the 20th century.
@Dervishpi @TootUncommon@mstdn.party exactly. I was 80s California, things were getting better already, I guess. Although I still didn't learn about Tulsa for example – still lots of him for improvement.
