My opponent in Congress refuses to call for a ceasefire.

After Hamas killed 1400 Jewish civilians I called for a ceasefire. My opponent did not.

After IDF bombing killed 4000 Palestinian civilians, I asked him to his face, "What needs to happen for you to call for a ceasefire?" He refused to answer & walked away.

Now IDF bombs have killed more than 10,000 Palestinian civilians & more than 3600 children. Still he refuses to call for a ceasefire to protect Palestinian lives & Jewish lives.

I'm a human rights lawyer running for US Congress in IL-11.

I believe in the sanctity of Jewish lives and Palestinian lives. And I will not stop raising my voice for international human rights law, peace, and justice.

If you share these values, I hope to have your support, because who we elect matters, and Justice Can't Wait.

@QasimRashid I'm all for cease-fire, but it feels rather... naïve? Just like the calls for peace to Russia.

The Hamas won't hear you, and Israel needs to act. Yes, what they do is unlikely to actually help against the Hamas and I think that's wrong – but just asking for a cease-fire will simply lead to another attack by the Hamas.

Being for peace is one thing, calling out for peace when there's no chance just seems helpless, or from a person affected by the war, maybe even cynical.

@ljrk @QasimRashid Yeah, it's regrettable that Foster walked away (is that what happened?) instead of asking about what you're saying – "how can Israel achieve the security goals it obviously needs to achieve if it ceases firing weapons?" There might be great answers to that question; I'm not really sure what they are, though.

@ech @QasimRashid Yes and it's not only poor style but also reflects badly on Foster's position. It's fine to admit to not knowing "the solution", doubtful anyone does. But even admitting to that would be a great start.

@ech @ljrk @QasimRashid Part of the answer is destroying the vast tunnel network that allows Hamas to store arms under schools, relief centers, hospitals & refugee camps.
