@neil we have pheasants come into our garden from the fields behind us and have often wondered how evolution produced something considered tasty by so many predators which is also so noisy.

Our, yet young, whippet will undoubtedly catch one of the pheasants visiting the garden.
The neighbouring farm/estate (unrelated, a Game of Thrones location) raises the birds for shooting.
