I was using a method of storing binary trees via arrays since basically forever (parent(x) = x / 2, left(x) = x * 2, right(x) = x * 2 + 1).

But just recently I learned it's called an ahnentafel en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ahnentaf and it's been originally used in genealogy.

I heard that Pythagorean diet excluded meat, fish and beans. Which makes sense for us today, except for the beans. The reasons are unknown but it's speculated it was because of ancient religious/spiritual aversion to beans also found in Egypt (they refused to cultivate them, per Herodotus) and in Rome (considered a symbol of death). Interestingly enough, this is all about fava beans. Green beans and others were brought from the New World.
