In the Netherlands we have komkommer for the big variant without stings and augurk for the small variant with stings. The latter is usually added to sweet and sour vinegar for a couple of weeks.

@marco @mikelalasmuto So it is more or less analogous to "cucumber" and "gherkin" as they say i english (the gherkins are the ones used for pickles)
Funny thing, in Spain, traditionally all the cucumbers are gherkins or augurk, the shorter variety with thorns 🙂
