I'll say this again, because it's clear that so many people here don't have professional backgrounds in UI and UX design.
You don't design for the people who can easily understand your systems, you design for the large universe of potential users who you can predict will have difficulties with more tech-centric designs.
That is, you design this way IF you care about those potential users and don't want to be engaged in discrimination against busy non-technical persons and don't want to engage in outright ageism.
@lauren This is why I heavily engage in me-ism for 90% of the software I write:
* I don't intend it to be understood by the elderly
* I don't intend it to be understood by the colorblind
* I don't intend it to be understood by anyone but me
* Also, I'm not releasing it
* Also, I will forget how it works the minute I put it down ;)
@mtomczak With "I'm not releasing it" the key sentence there! I've been known to write comments to my future self in code noting that I'm doing this in case my future self forgets how the code I wrote works. This has come in handy more than once.
