One thing that strikes me about the Trump documents case is that it's almost entirely a sequence of unforced errors that yielded almost no obvious benefit to him. It's just narcissistic recklessness, lies, doubling down, obstruction, conspiracy, rinse and repeat.

He could have simply returned the documents he knew about and cooperated in the recovery of the others. But he can't help himself.

@mattblaze Yes, I said years ago he's not a Russian asset he's just a fucking deranged untrustworthy person who will find reasons to sabotage any system that gets in his way or doesn't flatter him. Which is just fine by Russia.

@SwiftOnSecurity Indeed. It seems clear (has seemed clear for years) that Russia supported Trump, but Russia supported Trump because they recognized him as a stumbling block to American international ambitions, not an active asset. It was going to be harder for the US to thwart Russian ambitions if the President sucked.

He was just the worst option on the table and I think even they were surprised when Americans picked him.
