I finally replaced my ailing, sputtering 14-year-old TV and it turns out that yeah modern television shows are dark but like…not even close to as dark as I thought they were…

@catvalente Were you able to get a non-smart TV? I'm terrified that the next time I have to replace my ailing 14-year-old TV I'm going to be stuck with something that's not a TV, but a dedicated-purpose computer that happens to have "TV" as an application it can run (and all the irritations that comes with... Literally had a relative where I had to drive over to their house to reboot their TV once a month because the damn thing would just freeze).

@mtomczak @catvalente Likewise. It’s getting harder and harder to find them, as most mfrs want to cash in on things like ad revenue, packaging deals with online services and data-mining. I e been hoping to find a 4k one that’s > 50” but haven’t had any luck. I just found a new 40” 1080p that I can get for about 250$ and I’m likely going to get it, as my current one is 12yrs old 37” and is likely to go at any time. The speakers are already toast. 🤷🏽
