A 16-year-old was shot in the head when he rang the wrong doorbell in Missouri. Don't gaslight me by saying racism isn't a huge problem in this country. I would bet my life savings that the kid wouldn't have been shot through the glass if he'd been White.

Also, a 21-year-old was shot and killed when she pulled into the wrong driveway in New York. The. Wrong. Driveway.

The common denominator in both of these circumstances? Guns. Does this happen in other developed countries? Hell. No.

@dancinyogi One of my Italian students did a year of schooling in the USA. Her classmates asked her if we in Italy have water at home and if we use horses to get around. Most of them had no idea where Italy is.
I think the US has a frightening problem of widespread ignorance. The guns are just a consequence. Just as the fascist drift of the GOP is a consequence.

@naciketas Absolutely. And education is moving in the wrong direction. Not only is higher ed. discouraged, but the education I received as a child is not available in large swaths of the country. Between book bans and the banning of topics that can be discussed in classrooms, that ignorance will only grow.
