A lot of my French friends don't understand the level of intellectual collapse going on in America right now. I show them videos like the following (linked below), and they really can't wrap their heads around the fact that literally tens of millions of people in America believe this bullshit. It's so hard for them to fathom. It's not that we don't have conspiracy theorists here in France and in Europe in general, it's that they are not so entrenched in society on this level of insanity.

@natharari Actually, I shouldn’t let the alt-left off the hook either. Seen from a cosy distance, in sunny Southern California, Jean-Luc Mélenchon is every bit as much of an opportunist as Donald Trump, and almost as good at lying.
I don’t want to ruffle anyone’s feathers here on Mastodon, but that’s how it seems to me, as a moderate centrist who considers himself socially and fiscally “responsible”.
@ZeKik Yeah, it isn't the same though. I agree: It would be very, very bad. But the society in the U.S. is so different from the one in France. It's just not comparable in my view, though I do agree with your premise about the alt-left in general.
@natharari I’m sure you are right, but my friends and family know how much I love 🇫🇷, and I own a property there. It’s impossible to overstate the impact of the destructive protests here. Many Americans look in in disbelief as they see restaurants set on fire and the Arc de Triomphe vandalized, and whatever else has happened at the hands of the #YellowVests #GiletJaunes and the current #PensionReform protests.
@natharari The reaction is similar to what the reaction is in Europe when they see our mainstream #altright politics, our gun laws, and trampling of #LGBTQ rights.
