Excellent explanation from @elkofried@mastodon.online covering the issues with the new study claiming to have found "clear evidence" for the serotonin hypothesis of depression: eiko-fried.com/clear-evidence-
(original paper here: biologicalpsychiatryjournal.co)

This study comes just months after an umbrella review by Joanna Moncrief and colleagues talking about the lack of evidence for the serotonin hypothesis of depression sparked intense media attention and some pretty wild claims about antidepressants. (At the time, we wrote a piece about this which you can check out here: neurofrontiers.blog/no-link-be).

Against this background, the media has also widely reported on the study, potentially adding even more to the confusion of the general public.
