Small #fediverse tip: If you see someone with a ​ blue check in their display name here (myself included), you should assume they're doing it as a parody, because it needs to be stripped of its cultural meaning in general, and it particularly needs to be seen as silly nonsense on Mastodon. Treating it as something special only serves to reinforce the idea that it *is* something special, which ultimately just serves to benefit Twitter.

There IS a real form of "verification" on Mastodon, in user profiles: If someone has a link to another website in their profile (like my link to my website, https://www.lupinia.net), and there's a green checkmark next to it, that means that that website also links back to their Mastodon profile in a way that confirms that it's really theirs. This generally verifies that the profile you're looking at is owned by the same person who owns/runs that website.
