So I have a legacy "notable" blue check over on #Twitter. One thing you may not know if you've never had one, is that it is frequently used as a pejorative by trolls and such. Yep. Still, there's no denying that it felt nice to see, and the Elon blue check chaos has not been encouraging.
However, as Twitter has rapidly spun into a maelstrom of Elon-enabled toxicity, I realize that I just don't care the same way about Twitter (or blue checks) anymore. Elon is capable of doing enormous damage with Twitter, and for that reason alone the platform cannot be ignored. But also, the educational value of Twitter's demise cannot be overstated. We are living through a period in tech and business history that will be remembered and studied for many, many years to come.
@lauren Demise seems unlikely. Contraction, perhaps. Too early to tell.
@radehi Notably, even before Elon, Twitter was moving in that direction with NFTs and such, and was reportedly already talking about trying to monetize porn. So the decline had already begun. Elon's talk now about trying to turn #Twitter into another PayPal is hilarious in the most awful kind of way.
twitter, musk
@lauren PayPal is awful for users but not for investors. But, as I commented in the post I linked, I do not think is Musk's plan to make it pay no matter what.
