I'd really appreciate it if people who have avatars with pictures of somebody screaming at me would consider something a little less violent. It definitely impacts how I interpret your tweets/toots. An actual picture of yourself helps too, if you're in a situation that allows it.
@allenholub Maybe those people want to be Twitter-style soldiers in an ideological war rather than investigating what they might learn from another person, so maybe avoiding them is beneficial.

Yeah. I'm going try and curb that in my little corner of it. If somebody is obnoxious, I'm now calling them on it. If they persist, I block them. I have little tolerance for even sarcasm anymore.

@allenholub Curbing aggression is a losing battle on Twitter. Is a trolling platform; Twitter success is measured by how many people you provoke strong reactions from. For motivation, you see your trolling score update in real time, and you get a metrics display to help you analyze how many people each Tweet goaded into detectable reactions. You can put videos or photos in Tweets (great for emotional manipulation) but not code, equations, or more than 60 words of actual reasoning, not even a 100-word abstract. Is optimized for quick reactions; nobody can see what you tweeted last month unless is linked.
Possible Musk will try to change this, but not likely; more probable to go the other direction.

Actually, most of the people in my little corner of Twitter are pretty civilized. I don't venture onto the dark side of MAGA people and other sociopaths, though, and don't tweet about politics if I can help it. Musk will not change the dark side. He agrees with all the effluent they spew and wants to encourage it. He has the emotional development of a 2-year-old.

@radehi Nah. A lot of them have had obnoxious avatars since long before Musk. I'm just getting tired of them. The think they're funny, but more and more they seem like an assault to me.
