@Radical_EgoCom @rrb @jaycee the USA is some strange form of dirigism, not actual capitalism. It’s closer to the economic subsystem of fascism, that everyone always pretends didn’t exist.
Without the constant injections of huge amounts of money into the military industrial complex, prison systems, and research the entire system would collapse completely.
They briefly cut military spending in the 80s and STEM salaries crashed nationwide, because the whole system is propped up by artificially inflated Raytheon and Boeing salaries
Prior to WWII the crashes were way more frequent than the “10-15 years” that we have now, cause It was actual capitalism back then
He has his problems, but Chomsky has a good explanation of the whole thing in “understanding power” that’s well cited and pretty compelling, tracing how the entire world stopped being capitalist nearly 100 years ago.
It’s a huge part of why we have such a hard time combatting the system, the left is still acting like we’re fighting 1800s systems, we keep reading stuff aimed at that long dead system and trying to pull a battle plan from “theory” but it won’t work cause capitalism is long dead and we’re chasing its ghost around.
We’re in the age of propaganda and direct economic injection now, and it’s a different beast entirely.
