@nop It's troubling that these things happen but are, in some way, part of the essence of the fediverse. For one part you can rely on the fact that bigger instances are less likely to fall but they also have other kind of problems (like you had on pawoo), they are either too tightly moderated or not moderated at all.
But i think it's important to accept that everything in the fediverse is ephimeral and can dissapear overnight so it's not really trusty to save any kind of info here. When i have some kind of important piece of info i save it on places like rentry.co and even then i have a offline copy just in case.
Despite this, i think the fediverse is a good place to be and these things happening don't keep me from enjoying the benefits of such networks, and believe me that it has happened too many times to me already.
I think i just need to set up a backup to have in case this other server/accounts ends up failing too!

You are right.
I thought Mastodon had a move function and could handle server closures, but it was incomplete because it only works if both the source and destination servers of the move are active.
Backups are important.
