US political media dysfunction

The POLITICOfication of the New York Times coninues.

AXIOS is one of the key outlets that relentlessly hyped Republican fed "red wave" nonsense. #Fediverse

What is telling about the New York Times's addition of AXIOS's Jonathan Swan to their roster is that they are publicly tripling down on their coverage on Donald Trump.

As if we need more toxic content in the elite political/media landscape of US. 🙄 #Fediverse nytco.com/press/jonathan-swan-

@murshedz Interesting that you read it that way. I don't know the specific work of anyone involved but my impression was positive in that it seems like they are trying to chase and report on reality. The fact that reality can be toxic sucks, for sure, but educating people about it is certainly what I expect from the news.

@shadowsonawall The issue is reporters like Swann don't report reality - they just cut and paste what they get from bad faith political actors like Trump and often engage in toxic practice of presenting both-sides when one side is clearly distorting truth and being dishonest. It's what has been so corrosive in US media last few decades.

@murshedz I guess it boils down to what someone is hoping to learn. For example, sources reporting XYZ misinformation as true is something I do my best to avoid. Sources pointing out that XYZ is a held belief by some set of people is useful information to me and does directly reflect reality.
