One of the most confusing aspects of CWs on mastodon is that they are called CWs. When I think of CWs, I think of warning vulnerable people that content might trigger a response that is mentally or physically harmful to them. I am not thinking about warning people that my post concerns some topic that they might not be interested in.

I really think CWs should be replaced with tags and there should be an option to hide only posts with some tags but not others.

Reason 1: There are so many posts hidden behind CWs (some of which are obscure and long) that I have disabled all CWs in my feed. That makes my feed readable, but CWs useless.

Reason 2: I think the way that CWs are implemented in mastodon on a technical level is great and I would love to take advantage of that. I would like things politics, etc. to be visible in my feed by default while still hiding others like graphic violence for example

An interesting way in which this could be implemented is to give admins of instances the option to request certain tags while leaving others optional. For example, everytime before I can publish, I get asked

"Does this post contain any of the following?
☑️ violence
☑️ nudity
☑️spoilers"

If my account is on an instance that would like other default tags for tags, the admin could adjust that list.

@aliceschwarze this would put a heavy burden on the "normal" user experience though. The example would avoid 'vilence', true. But that's something of an edge case I'd expect. In balance, I'd much rather the standard experience remain and suffer the typos.
