France thinks they can put a technological access measure between teenagers and porn, and I think they’re going to regret it. reuters.com/world/europe/franc

Anyway I tend to think that the majority of these age-verification and ISP filtering measures are a way to build out the infrastructure a national-scale Internet firewall in advance of… some event that could make one necessary. Am I being paranoid about this?

@matthew_d_green On one hand, I think that many people are genuinely concerned about ubiquitous porn... and I'm starting to understand them. Obviously when I was 17 I thought they were all horribly boring dinosaurs, now I kinda get what they're worried about and I don't even have children yet.

On the other hand - yeah. A logical conclusion. It's as unfortunate as is was predictable, but when the whole world joined us old geeks on the Internet we should have known they'd bring their goddamn borders with them.
