It's one thing to decide that you don't want to associate with someone. That is normal, we don't get along with everyone... conflicts happen. I don't think we should be forced to interact with everyone we meet.

But quite another to suggest to isolate someone from a social platform where they have support. It really should be a last resort because it is so damaging to mental health. To our primitive minds, it is a death sentence because we wouldn't survive long without our community and support network.

Please consider this.

We are all humans. If I had been chased off the fediverse in those early mastodon days then I would have had no outside socialising. I left twitter because I was so unhappy there.

If I couldn't find another outlet for socialising, then I would have probably killed myself due to my own depression. A lot of people online are vulnerable and lack that social support network. Perhaps especially those who have different opinions to those who suggest this.

Isolation from the community is death to the human brain.

@sim consider this: perhaps if you had no online social outlet, you would have created a support system in real life that can't be taken down by censorship

@wmarshall That isn't likely. I have social anxiety. I was also rejected and bullied in my youth. I lack the social skills to maintain the friendships I would need. I turned to the internet for a reason. If I were going to have an offline social outlet, it would have happened by now. There is a less sense of community and the ability to be honest these days...
