uspol, musings on due process

reminder: if due process is revoked for one group -- illegal immigrants, for example -- it can be revoked for everyone. All the government has to do is say you're an illegal immigrant. You say, "but I'm not, and I can prove it" -- but prove it to who?? the government doesn't have to give you a chance to prove it, that's what revoking due process *means.*

But of course, most people who say it's okay to revoke illegal immigrants' due process are white. so.

uspol, musings on due process

the cops don't ever demand germans show their papers, or hold a french person without trial out of suspicion of them being an illegal immigrant. because it's not really about immigration, they're just racist.

but the due process point still stands. and to you, racist white person reading this: if the government ever needs a reason to revoke your due process, by letting them revoke brown peoples' due process, you're basically handing it to them.

@jacethechicken Illegal immigrants do have the Constitutional right (as a Human created by God) to due process under the law. They currently have this right, and nobody is trying to take it away. The Trump administration surely wants to guarantee the right to a speedy trial for these immigrants, but every single one of them does see a courtroom. usa.gov/deportation
I'm interested in what makes you believe they don't have these rights.

@wmarshall obviously the government website you just linked is gonna say that they're not violating the constitution.

I can't be bothered to go dig up the countless times ICE has violated due process -- but for example, demanding papers is unconstitutional, as is withholding a lawyer for any amount of time, and ICE is well-documented as having done this frequently. get educated.

@wmarshall here's literally the first source I could find on the subject: aclu.org/issues/immigrants-rig

I'm not gonna do all your research for you, it's your responsibility to be an educated citizen

@wmarshall here's every ACLU article on the subject for you to peruse aclu.org/search/%20?f%5B0%5D=f
