@manu okay, Ice Cubes is much faster, just as advertised, and fixed all the issues I’ve been having with replies and notifications lately. So loving that. However, it doesn’t seem to have a functional search? I see only an option to search within my instance, but even that is not giving results. Do you know what I might be missing?

@WAHa_06x36 try searching for anything specific in Amazon for even wilder results.

Eye-opening WaPo gift article, detailing a lawsuit brought in seeking clarification and guidance on their statute when it puts women in medical danger, as well as raising due process and equal protection concerns on that basis. It’s an op-ed, so the tone is far from neutral, but it is also informative and critically important. No matter where you stand on the personhood of the , the current state of the law having catastrophic effects.

On my desktop, works smoothly, but on my phone, it’s a hassle, and started getting dramatically worse a few days ago.

So I am looking into choices to try, on iOS. But there’s a lot! Does anyone have any advice about which I should use or avoid? I see , , , , , , , … I do NOT have the energy to try all of that, so any opinions would be useful, please.

22° halo around the #moon captured with #iphone in #losangeles

I think that’s what it is 🤔???
Re: “Scientists call them 22-degree halos. They bear this name because the radius of the circle around the sun or moon is approximately 22 degrees.

There’s an old weather saying: ring around the moon means rain soon. There’s truth to this saying, because high cirrus clouds often come before a storm. Notice in these photos that the sky looks fairly clear. After all, you can see the sun or moon. And yet halos are a sign of high, thin cirrus clouds drifting 20,000 feet (6 km) or more above our heads.”

To have a viral post on Mastodon is to be confronted with a long series of people asking the exact same question or providing the same “well actually” response, for days, because of the limits of federation. They simply can’t see those other replies. Sometimes they see *no* ofher replies, if they’re on a tiny server.

The experience isn’t great! As with customer service, it can be hard to remember that this isn’t actually the same person over and over again.

@cstross social media isn’t in the Bible, either. That line of thought leads to pretty much giving up on technology altogether…

The physics suggest that a carbon capture technology that uses the ocean might be the only way to make carbon capture economical. There's just much more CO2 per liter of water than per liter of air, and ocean surface is an enormous, effective atmospheric CO2 capture mechanism. So I'm keeping my eye on technologies like this medium.com/predict/mit-may-hav
