"I once noticed a park on google maps with a racist slur as a placename, so I changed it back to it's real name. (It's easy to do) Had to do it a few times, over a couple of weeks, until the other person gave up.

Just got an update from google maps: three years later, it's been viewed 500,000 times. That's 500,000 people who didn't have to see a slur, when they were looking for a park.

And that's another example of anti-racism"

Never forget where you came from, because that’s probably where you left your phone.

This post is a pretty good one to post this end of the year note about #crypto I reckon too.

During 2022 Bitcoin consumed 161 TWh of electricity in total, exceeding a country such as Sweden.

Related CO2 emissions were ~90 Mt; again negating the entire global net savings from EVs.

Look, if a core Bitcoin developer's can get their whole wallet emptied out unrecoverably on them, and that developer's immediate reflex is to start calling a centralized authority for help, it's time to stop pretending this entire cryptocurrency exercise is ever going to work reliably.

New York Times seems really hell-bent on publishing as many absolutely shit hot-takes before the year ends as possible. Or more.

First the Signal one, now this:

> Hard-Line Positions by Russia and Ukraine Dim Hope for Peace Talks

Demanding a violent invader leaves your house is not a "hard-line position." "Stop invading our land and killing us" is not a "hard-line position."

What the fsck is wrong with these people.

Oh, 2022 isn’t done being wild. Remember mocking some puffed up poser named Andrew Tate? She flustered him so badly that he ended up accidentally revealing his location in to the authorities— who busted him for sex trafficking. A that will never be topped.

Tonight I decided to add candy eyes to our chocolate-dipped strawberries, only to learn that when it comes to desserts there is a very, very fine line between “whimsical” and “cursed”

Charlie Sykes takes a look at the big news stories of the year.

About the Supreme Court's Dobbs decision, he notes that it was the end of stare decisis, and states,

"The stunning end of Roe inspired the pro-life movement to pivot to shoring up the social safety net of programs for children and families. Just kidding."

We unearthed shocking emails in which prosecutors say they know they can’t get this method into court with a hearing to assess its legitimacy, so they devised a playbook to sneak it in. #journalism #news #crime #courts #science propublica.org/article/911-cal
