#Buddhism generally discourages critical thinking, in much the same way that #religion always does. I mean, sure, #Buddhists are allowed to think critically about Christianity or "Western culture" or "materialism" but Buddhism itself is sacrosanct. No criticism of Buddhism is ever offered. Nor is it welcomed if it turns up unexpectedly (which it does if you follow me).

I think it kind of depends on who you're hanging out with. I know several quite critical Zen people, and count myself amongst them, but then again they and I are American, so maybe not a huge sample size. 😉

Steve Hagen, for example, has a little trouble even calling himself a Buddhist or Zen Buddhist since he's opposed to the idea of "belief" in the first place.
