@AndyLowry oh, interesting, I've heard that. If I was forced to guess how it was produced I would have said: a sine wave patch on an old synth.

You made me double-check, aa I'd always assumed theramin. And that's what it was, according to https://www.synthtopia.com/content/2021/10/31/dark-shadows-theme-1966-on-the-theremin/
It was recorded in 1966, when I was ten, so may have been a little early for synthesizers though not by much.
@AndyLowry are you talking about the Vampire show? I don't recall the theme tbh
