I've been know to stay up late studying for a blood test.
I was flipping though the photos on my phone to track down a photo I wanted to send somebody, and happened across this one I'd forgotten about. It's a local cicada from their last big outbreak here a couple of years ago.
It's on my front porch, hence the detritus on the surface. The standard Zippo lighter is for scale.
Handsome, colorful beasts, ain't they?

Good question. Also the line between religion and cult is kinda fuzzy for me. My rule of thumb is, a religion is a cult after about a hundred years :)
@Rasta
Interesting that it's frequently the big, fairly expensive trucks that do this. There's a big Silverado of recent vintage here in my town that has things like "NASA is a HOAX" and "EARTH IS FLAT" all over it in duct tape.

I'm a '56 vintage, and I agree.

For some amazement about the Republican's footdragging re MLK day, check out its history in my state of Arizona. Then-Governor Ev Mecham cancelled it as a holiday in 1987, and it stayed that way until 1992 when the NFL threatened to pull the Superbowl. 🙄

I've had so many shots I don't even KNOW what my gender is anymore. It might even be Drag; I haven't checked.

You already got Don, so I'd suggest @harphat
as a good addition. Well curated posts for general interest, with intelligent humor here and there.

I was born in '56 and your post just made me realize that I noticed it going on as it happened. I first spotted it in American car design and the rare Saturday cartoon I'd see (good friend had little brother) first, but couldn't put a name to it. I, too, wonder what the heck happened.
It was around the time that hilariously unsuitable-for-purpose plastics first started to be seen everywhere, like car interior dash knobs (which, if you lived in a warmer part of the country, would last a couple of years before breaking off due to sun-baking brittleness).
The majority of people stopped caring about quality all at once, somehow, or forgot that it had ever existed.

This is the area of Dnipro where the Russian Kh-22 anti-ship missile hit. It's an ordinary residential district. There's not a single target in the vicinity even tangentially related to the military. This atrocity should be urgently investigated as a war crime.

Ahhh, I didn't know about that edition. Will have to order it and read the bastard one more time. 😉

I read ZAMM every year from ages 18 or so to maybe 60. It never actually gets stale for me,, and different aspects pop out each time than did before. There's a lot going on there.
Did you know that Chris was murdered outsilde the San Francisco Zen Center? It's so bizarre. You'd think Lila might have mentioned it, but if it did, I didn't see it.

Red Dwarf is the reason I finally got around to trying Vindaloo, and I'm not making that up. Been eating it ever since.
I am disgusted an appalled by #Boston's #MuseumeOfFineArts deeply dumb move into selling #NFT s of their art. This is a terrible, offensive, and counter-productive move, and I encourage any members of the MFA to let them know promptly and thoroughly that they should immediately reconsider.
