It’s #FollowFriday so I hope folks utilize the hashtag to find my account here!
Give me a boost! Maybe if I can show some of the big accounts on Twitter that it’s possible to grow sizably and quickly here, too, they’ll migrate over!
I must confess, I’m struggling with the 500 character and spaces limit and trying saying anything more detailed with that amount. I resource to abbreviation, numbers and ampersands. Still… The 500 limit is only about 1 paragraph. That’s funny coming from Twitter with a smaller limit, but has the ability to chain posts in a thread. I know some instances allow more space, although I hate to change instances. I like it here. Does anyone have suggestions, or maybe instances that have bigger limits?
Imagine telling your spouse they had the chance to divorce you eight years ago and they backed down. So now you won't *let* them try again.
By declining Scots the chance at #indyref2, the Supreme Court has just made Scotland's independence more likely. Unions work when all parties are free, valued, and engaged.
The journalist Grant Wahl was trying to enter the USA- Wales game wearing a LGBTQ T-shirt. He was detained for 25 minutes by #qatarworldcup security and banned from the stadium.
This happened despite the assurances from the FIFA that #lgbtq flags and t-shirts would be allowed in #Qatar.
As I was approaching sleep last night and my mind was doing that random wandering thing, I suddenly had memories of the car I was supplied for student driver education. It was a '72 Olds Cutlass Supreme, which at the time was a mid-sized car but would be a total land-yacht today. I thought it might be a fun thing to talk about with random strangers, so I'll ask y'all* the question: What car did you use for driver's ed? Did your school supply it?
*I lived in Texas for a time, and am thus certified to say "y'all" unironically.
Looking through old images I came across this one I took in 2010 in the Grand Canyon, back when I lived in the US. Before I visited I thought "ok, it can't be as spectacular as people say, they must be exaggerating". Boy was I wrong! It's impossible to convey with words or images the sheer size of this landmark. #LandscapePhotography
I bet you’ve heard of Galileo & Hubble, but what about Henrietta Swan Leavitt?
Leavitt changed astronomy. She figured out new ways to measure a star’s distance from Earth & her work helped determine the universe is expanding.
Her boss, Edward Pickering, published her findings UNDER HIS NAME. Later, Shapley used her findings to determine distances around the Milky Way w/o credit.
Leavitt’s work is still used today. So next time you hear about famous men in #science share her remarkable story.

@rbreich It's the "Some Lives Matter" movement, essentially.
Understanding #Mastodon gets easier once you get the basic idea that federation between servers can be understood as homeomorphisms across hyperplanes between the Riemannian manifolds of toots, whereas the servers represent countable finite sets of discrete entities.
