When I first read this this morning I told my wife that if you'd have told me 10 years ago that there'd be a global pandemic and our public health services would just shrug their shoulders and not care, while people giving warnings would be economists in Fortune, MarketWatch and the WaPo business section I would have never believed you.

Hear, hear.
Its not that we don’t have scientists and doctors raising alarm and advocating.
It’s that policymakers only listen when “tHe EcoNomY” is in danger.
Stock markets do not like it when insurance companies see 13% higher excess deaths ($ one time payouts).
However 50% higher claims from under 18 yr olds for diabetes ($$$ lifelong claims/disability) is going to really scare them.
@BE @anniegreens @TRyanGregory I think you could count Fauci at NIAID counts as public health and I think he was very concerned - I think what the pandemic did was showed us that our public health services were broken, they lacked enough funding and the American public needed to be educated to the fact that we needed to ramp up public health - I’m not sure we succeeded in getting the American public to understand the need to ramp up PH services and funding

Husband and I feel the same. Never would have believed it could happen.
