When you look at our political system atm and see how much it looks like monarchy with nobles in lifelong positions — you start to understand how greed and corruption has taken a toll on our processes.
Can’t even be a house rep these days without millions of dollars at your disposal. It gets worse every cycle, too.

FDR used the term “economic royalists” for the ultra rich who he felt reconstructed a new version of feudalism and he enacted laws to crush them e.g. high top tax rate, strongly enforced anti monopoly laws etc etc all things that have gone away in the last 40 years
I'm embarrassed I hadn't heard this one before and had to go look it up.

@BE @hiitslissy there is one FDR speech on economic royalists in particular that is excellent, though my old (punched in the head too many times) brain has forgotten which one it was, I think it was delivered at a college
