Mental health is the specific reason Bonnie Henry gave for forcing kids back into dangerous schools.
She said this without having done any research at all. Because the actual research says the opposite.
@steven That appears to be DBH's pattern. She seems incapable of understanding any research that contradicts her firmly held biases.
@mlmartens I think we're past giving her that much benefit of the doubt.
This is a choice.
I don't personally know much about BC schools, but, from what I know of my local school district their number one priority, over all others, is butts in seats to keep the maximum amount of money flowing.
There's also plenty of parents who don't want to, or sometimes can not, deal with their kids at home all of the time who will be vocal about it to give the school cover for the decision. I know people in both camps, sadly, and the school district will point to them and say "There's nothing else we could have done."
@BE @mlmartens School funding is provincial, so they don't need to worry about butts in seats.
She ended hybrid learning, which means we don't even have an option for remote school for kids who specifically need it. Literally with compromised immune systems need to choose between dying or no school at all.
I must be confused, then. I took the time to read before posting that and the link I relied on clearly stated that Canadian schools are funded based on enrollment. Sorry if I was misinformed!

We also have no hybrid learning in our area. We went to a full time online school and haven't regretted it at all.
That all said, it's certainly a tragedy what's happening in schools and we're glad we have been able to not be a part of it.
I hear you! Here, what happened was they gave x to each school per student when they were actually, physically, in the school, but 1/3rd of that for each student who was at home logged in virtually. It gave them the incentive to remove hybrid learning to get more funding.
@BE You're American, right?
Local levels of government are weird. Any power states/provinces give them are based almost entirely on vibes. But sometimes vibes are really important.
