So not only did I learn about the current insurrection attempt in Brazil on Mastodon before any of the journos/news hounds started posting links to Twitter about it (thanks @CrimethInc ...the anarchists always know what's going down first), I'm also really liking that it's not the only thing on my timeline due to algorithms. (Though I'm sure those Twitter algorithms are being used to help Bolsonaro right now, so please stop relying upon it as a place to get information and cultivate other sources...the news was also published by a local french-language newspaper before the Twitter links started being recommended so it seems both professional media and Mastodon are superior sources for breaking news than Twitter at this point, despite people being habituated to turning to Twitter).

Not only that, but there's so much good content here if you look for it. I cleared out a bunch of people that I was following this past weekend and one major news event in my timeline later I've replaced all of that plus some.
