I totally understand. My in-laws are not totally grasping the whole thing. They say they mask everywhere, but do the same things that you're talking about.
I learned the other day that my father in law masks all the time at the store....except when he's checking out and talking to the nice checkout lady so she can see his smiling face. *sigh*
@BE honestly? After my parents both caught it a month apart while traveling "despite being masked everywhere," which I came to realize actually excluded: a train during meal time, a large concert hall, and a museum, plus who knows how many other not-photographed places, I kinda processed the grief of realizing no indoor space is *REALLY* safe unless people have done their research instead of just taking what others recommend at face value.
Losing that safe space was way worse. This is just odd
