Side note, this four year old is a wildly busy human who loves rainbows so much. I can just see the struggle he would have in a typical classroom. During his online class he is literally hanging from the bottom of his bunk bed like it's a playground, doing little spins and flips. He's attentive and answers all the questions and contributes and I'm kind of surprised that level of activity isn't actually disruptive but my oh my that would be a challenge in a typical classroom where he'd be told to sit. Repeatedly. Nice not to have to quench his wiggliness.

@Kjl

This is my younger boy to a T. I'm so glad it's working out for you.

Pre-K and K were pretty tough for my little guy in school. He did well, but the teachers were always waiting for me at pickup to tell me all about how disruptive he was for not sitting still. He got to know the assistant principal pretty well...

1st grade was, actually, great, academically, when he had a teacher who removed the chair from his desk and let him stand and wiggle around all day. She got it. Funny thing is, she left the traditional classroom in 2020, too, and teaches virtual school now.

The rainbows...well...he had a couple bullies who tried to bully him out of loving the color pink, but he's far too stubborn to give into that. Now he rocks rainbow clothing whenever he wants.

Virtual school has really been the best thing possible for him. We didn't always see it back in 2019, but we understand it now and wouldn't ever go back. He thrives in the chaos of constant movement and sound and is academically exceeding anything he could have ever accomplished in a traditional classroom.

@BE this was beyond nice to read. Thank you. I could see my kid in your words! I've imagined him going to traditional school so many times. I've worked in those environments before and I know that there are wonderful teachers out there who would love him and encourage him but I also know that kids like your little guy and mine get misunderstood more often than not. I'm so happy for your kid that he's liking online school! And that it's working! I can absolutely see why... You can tailor it and move around and take outside breaks when you need them. It's actually been a real silver lining to being COVID aware - my kid has gotten to skip the part where school was really tough (it was wildly rough for my partner who has ADHD) and no one is telling him he can't love rainbows and flowers and trucks and machines at the same time. I smiled reading your description of his love for pink 🩷. I'm impressed by his stubbornness to be who he is and love what he loves. Thanks for sharing, it was really validating.
