I was just moving some boxes out into the car and a delivery person was on the way up the driveway with a couple boxes. I swear, she looked all of 18, and as I'm walking with the boxes she says to whoever she's on the phone with, "Hold on. I've got a boomer coming out of this house."

I'm GenX and now I just don't know if I'll ever recover 😂

@BE As a GenX who constantly gets Boomered I feel your pain. "I... I'm only 49!"

@BE As a member of Gen Jones, I have realized that “boomer” is no longer being used as a generational referent by young people. It is now purely age-based. If you have gray hair or look in any way older than 35, you are now a boomer, no matter when you were born. “Boomer” has become synonymous with “oldster,” “old-timer,” “unhip,” “square,” “foggy,” “fossil,” “stick-in-the-mud,” and “fud.”

All of which means that in a few months, the oldest Millennials will become boomers too. Welcome to the party new boomers. You cannot escape.

@bhawthorne @BE

"Never trust anyone over 35!" -- me, age 59 (so I should know, right? :blobcatthinksmart:)

@bhawthorne @BE as an elder millennial I’ve been getting friendly fire for years already.

@bhawthorne @BE fair enough. I own a house so I’m closer to a boomer than a millennial.

@bhawthorne @BE Out here it’s mostly used as a class + age thing, not just age. But yeah totally has moved past just a generational term.

@TwiceShy @BE I don’t know where “out here” is, but that is fascinating. So what class is associated with boomers out there? Upper-middle?

@bhawthorne @BE Yeah boomer = generally over 50 + owning investment properties or think that “kids just need to work hard and budget to buy a house” + generally ignores systematic issues and blames them on lack of work ethic + general let them eat cake mentality.

@bhawthorne @BE So like there are for sure generational Boomers that aren’t boomers.

@TwiceShy @BE So basically, old people who don’t understand or admit to their own privilege?

@bhawthorne @BE Totally. And Gen Z colleagues use it as slang in the “ok boomer” mode to refer to anyone regardless of age who displays a “get off my lawn” “I don’t understand change” “big 401k energy”.

@BE Don’t tell me they didn’t know what they were doing with this headline.
