It was not the students' use of a #ChatBot that was the problem, but they were using material found on the internet that *itself* was created by a hallucinating ChatBot and published without verification!
This is a type of model collapse we will be dealing with not just at universities in the near future.

This. It's never been the case that an internet search was guaranteed to come up with definitive info. Time to polish up research and critical thinking skills, and learn to track down primary/authoritative sources. The librarians miss us.
@Biggles @bubbajet @SwiftOnSecurity @WiseWoman I certainly never quoted a random thread on reddit for a research paper. I don't know if my professors checked my references, but they were all from legitimate peer-reviewed journals.
